Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Our Continued Fight

Breast cancer awareness slogan banner on Wall | New U Women's Clinic & Aesthetics

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of death among Washington women. Currently, women who are high-risk for developing breast cancer are foregoing much needed MRIs because it is not covered by insurance. Evidence supports the use of screening breast MRI in women with a genetic mutation, women who have received chest radiation therapy before age 30, and women with a lifetime risk calculation of family breast cancer greater than 20%.

New U Women’s Clinic & Aesthetics is the only clinic in the region to offer specialized genetic counseling and testing services such as Hereditary Cancer Testing and Expanded Carrier Screening. Fidino specializes in breast cancer risk assessment, hereditary cancer syndromes, cancer genetics, managing and developing high-risk breast cancer centers and cancer prevention. She is double board-certified and holds national certifications as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Genetics Nursing.

She is presently working with State Senator Sharon Brown to sponsor a bill requiring insurance coverage for screening breast MRIs for women who are high-risk for developing breast cancer. 13 states, as well as the District of Columbia, have already passed similar legislation. If you feel as strongly as Dr. Fidino, please write your elected officials today and encourage them to support our cause.
